ClariVein: Instructions

12.10.2023

A number of factors, including genetics, are involved in the development of varicose veins. For the gradual development and worsening of the difficulty, the patient is threatened with possible inflammation, swelling and cramping pain. The superficial venous system thus affected is non-functional. In advanced forms, a tibial ulcer may appear. This condition, with possible further development of the disease, is an indication for surgical treatment.

The ClariVein method is a minimally invasive method that gently removes the origin of varicose veins in the lower extremities. The operation is performed in the area of superficial veins - large or small sphenoid. As part of the operation, the affected varicose veins can also be removed - the so-called phlebectomy. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis without the need for general anaesthesia, only under local anaesthesia and without the need for incapacity for work.

By removing the non-functioning superficial venous system and the varices present, the prerequisite for improving the return of blood from the lower limbs is created, without continued congestion. After subsequent recovery, full weight-bearing of the limb is possible. There is no further development of secondary changes and accompanying complications. In most cases, further medication and restrictions in the preoperative period are not necessary.

Preoperative instructions

No special preparation is required before the procedure, no fasting is necessary, no pre-operative examination is required. Wear loose pants or a longer skirt for the procedure. If you have more body hair, it is advisable to shave the groin and varicose areas. Before the procedure, drink plenty of fluids, at least 1 litre.

During the operation, the injection site will be numbed using local anaesthesia. Under ultrasound control, a cannula will be inserted into the vein to be treated and a thin catheter will be inserted. The tip of the catheter rotates very quickly, leading to a reactionary contraction of the vessel and damage to its inner lining. At the same time, a sclerosing solution is injected into the catheter tip, which, in combination with the rotation, ensures uniform contact of the solution with the inner wall of the vessel and its closure throughout the treatment. During the procedure, you may feel a pull or vibration along the treated vessel or mild pain.

On the day of surgery, leave the bandages on the limbs, in the evening remove only the elastic bandages and leave the stockings overnight. In the morning, you can pull down the stockings and remove the larger pads. Leave the plasters on the skin and do not soak, wash around with a washcloth. Put the stockings back on. After 3 days you can remove the patches. From the day of the procedure for 7 days, compression stockings must be worn 24 hours a day. After that, it is recommended to wear the stockings only in the daytime for a week. From day 7 onwards, you can apply the recommended anti-edema and anti-bruising cream or gel to the bruising twice a day. Avoid heavy exertion and sporting activity for 2 weeks after the operation, in the following period it is possible to gradually start sports. Regular walking is important for recovery. You will be seen for a follow-up after 5-10 days to have the stitches removed. No diet is necessary after the procedure. Follow the recommendations of the attending physician.

Removal of varicose veins using the ClariVein method is not covered by public health insurance and is performed at the patient's request for direct financial reimbursement.

Please come to the procedure on the agreed date and time. In the case of analgosedation, it is not possible to drive motor vehicles after the procedure, please choose to be accompanied to the procedure.
