Application of Botulinum Toxin - Instructions
Botulinum toxin is a substance used in neurology, to relieve muscle spasms, in aesthetic medicine to correct facial wrinkles and to relieve excessive sweating (armpits, feet, palms). For deeper wrinkles, a combination with hyaluronic acid is possible.
No special preparation is required before the procedure. You will receive pre-operative instructions from the attending physician.
Botulinum toxin application is performed on an outpatient basis and can be performed immediately after consultation with your physician. The substance is injected by gentle punctures into the problem areas. At the site of application, botulinum toxin breaks the neuromuscular connection, thus preventing the facial muscles from contracting, which is the main cause of the formation of facial wrinkles. The effect is visible 2 to 14 days after application. The effect lasts 3-6 months. After that, the application can be repeated. During application there is a slight burning sensation, the soreness is individual.
It is recommended to avoid bending over and horizontal position of the body for at least 4 hours after the procedure. Do not touch the treated area for at least 24 hours, make-up can be carefully applied the following day. A small bruise may form at the injection site, which will disappear within a week.
Avoid vigorous exercise and sauna on the day of the procedure.
It is recommended to gently move the treated muscles briefly for best results.
Adverse reactions have been observed in a small percentage of patients: headache (lasting no more than 2 days), flu-like symptoms, redness or bruising at the injection site, nausea, occasional drooping of the eyelid (resolves within 3 weeks), eye twitching, double vision, minor bleeding during and immediately after the procedure, minor bruising at the injection site, rarely infection may occur (requires antibiotic treatment). The procedure should not be performed on pregnant and breastfeeding women and under 18 years of age.
