Joint puncture

23.10.2023

If your knee is sore, swollen and painful to move, you may have water in it, but don't worry, you have nothing to worry about.

At our clinic we perform a simple procedure that will help you, it is a joint puncture, i.e. the removal of excess joint fluid.

  • The orthopaedic surgeon will first diagnose the affected joint
  • Determine the amount of fluid that has accumulated and determine the most appropriate puncture procedure
  • The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia so that pain is minimal
  • The fluid is extracted very easily using a needle
  • The fluid is then sent for examination to discover the cause of its formation

Joint effusion indicates a build-up of joint fluid in the joint capsule. It is usually manifested by pain, swelling and reduced mobility.

The formation of unnecessary joint fluid occurs, for example, when the joint is affected by arthrosis. The articular cartilage breaks down and the joint itself wears out. The body tries to relieve the pain by, among other things, producing fluid. Sometimes water in the joint can also occur after an injury.

The injection removal of the fluid that we perform will bring you immediate pain relief.
