AMH - fertility blood test
Postponing pregnancy until later is a trend that is in line with modern lifestyles. Having a baby around the age of 40 is not a rarity today. However, at this age, the ability to conceive a child naturally is already declining rapidly.
The test is particularly suitable for women who are considering delaying motherhood and for women who have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive for more than a year. It is also suitable for those with a family history of premature menopause, i.e. before the age of 45. The examination is also for clients after ovarian surgery and women with severe endometriosis or after chemotherapy.
A woman's fertility depends on her ovarian reserve (simply, the number of eggs in her ovary), which naturally decreases with age. One indicator of the number of eggs is the concentration of Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in the blood. A normal concentration of AMH says that the number of eggs is sufficient and a woman's fertility is optimal. Reduced values indicate a low probability of pregnancy. If the AMH level in the blood is very low, it indicates infertility.
The result of the test will tell you what your ovarian reserve is, i.e. the approximate estimated number of eggs in your ovaries and thus the "biological age" of your ovaries.
